May be it's because their mishmash of mediocre-at-best defensemen didn't allow many good shots, and their goaltender that doesn't leave you optimistic about The Future of American Goaltending stopped all but 2 of the good ones.

Lets say the Kings had scored 3 more goals on 10 more shots (to be consistent with yesterday's S%). They would have won 9-2 and still gotten outshot by 17. That still wouldn't have impressed you, because they got so heavily outshot, correct?

maybe i'd respect them if i watched a game and said to myself "well that sure is a team that can do damage right there" instead of "that is a team that was like -27 in shot differential and still won despite their best efforts"

The Sharks dominated for a few minutes in the first half of the 1st, then several shifts mid-way through the 2nd. The rest of the game was equal, with the Kings scoring and the Sharks not scoring.

How exactly are the Kings supposed to win to get some respect? The Sharks hadn't given up a 1st-period goal in 9 games. The Kings promptly scored 3. Should they not count because Marleau is an idiot?

Yes, Jack was -1. The ES scoring for the game was 3-1, with Jack being out there for the garbage goal. How terrible.

"but for that pesky games-in-hand thing"

San Jose 43
Colorado 43
Phoenix 43
Los Angeles 43
Chicago 42
Nashville 42
Vancouver 42
Calgary 41

It's not like they've got many GIH on anybody. In the end, everyone plays 82 games, so its not like the Kings have some unfair advantage there.

They have managed to win despite Kopitar's production falling off the deep end, though. But I agree about the Kings, in part because the playoffs start and end with the goalie, and Quick will have to be downright Gigu-sgood-ian to bring them to a game for silver.
